Six Steps To Ensure The Most Accurate Painting Estimate Possible For Your Vermont Home

April 13, 2010

Are you concerned getting the most accurate estimate possible for painting your home (inside or outside)?

We’ve been there – I think almost everyone has.  You receive a verbal estimate for a job and then one thing leads to another and before you know it the project is well over budget.

We recommend six steps to avoid this.

  1. Hire experienced painters.  Experienced painters are more likely to closely estimate a project because they understand the time, materials and work required to complete the job.
  2. Ask for references.  References are a good indicator of the level of workmanship you can expect in your project.
  3. Be as clear as possible about the scope of the project, your expectations, and the desired outcome.  Without a doubt, this alone is a very important factor.
  4. Clarify the schedule – the project start and completion date.  If this is a priority project, or needs to be completed within a certain time frame, make sure you discuss this and have a clear agreement.
  5. Who’s purchasing or providing the materials for the project?  Paint, brushes, rollers, spray painters, drop cloths, etc.?
  6. Depending on the scope of the project, you may want to ask for a written estimate.  Just be sure to read it to make sure it reflects your understanding and ensure all points are covered.

If you follow these six steps, you will be well on your way to making sure the estimate you’ve received is as close as possible to the actual cost of your project.   Ensuring our clients are happy is the most important thing to us.  We love Win Wins!
